Why I Walk…
A caregivers journey

"Before caring for my spouse as he continued to forget the most common of activities, I had absolutely no knowledge of Alzheimer's disease. I was in complete denial when I began my caregiving trek, as I am convinced other family caregivers are. Only after my husband was gone did I discover just how much damage had been done to

my health, relationship with other family and friends, and our financial situation. I struggled for years

with my denial, fears and day-today caregiving frustrations.

I now have years of experience with this disease, and I desperately want to reach out and educate

others to find help in their community. Through the experiences I encountered I know that accepting help and talking care of myself as a caregiver is critical! I walk to somehow touch people, help

educate the community of the resources

that are available that would have made my caregiving experience a happier and healthier one, not just for me but for my husband as well.

We MUST take care of ourselves as

caregivers and find help in our communities.

Take advantage of the services from the Alzheimer’s Network of Oregon, participate in the Walks to Remember this year and help raise funds

and awareness of this devastating disease."

The Alzheimer’s Network of Oregon invites you
